About Chinese Name Translation
Two different name tasks
Use the homepage to translate an English name into its Chinese name translation. Tom → 汤姆 is a familiar example. Translating an existing name is separate from choosing a new Chinese name.
Use the custom name generator when you want a new Chinese name for everyday use. You choose the name’s feel, structure, setting and style; the tool suggests three different names with reasons. Chinese-to-English translation remains available as another direction on the homepage.
Where a Chinese translation comes from
The homepage checks a local name dictionary before using AI. Results show whether they came from that dictionary or are AI reference translations. A dictionary match or AI result is not a claim that a translation is unique.
The local dictionary includes data adapted from CC-CEDICT and selected Wikidata name items. The adapted CC-CEDICT data is shared under CC BY-SA 4.0; Wikidata structured data is CC0. Name translations can vary by language, region, and pronunciation.
Pronunciation and meaning
Results include pinyin and a play button where supported by your browser. When a translation follows pronunciation, the literal meanings of its Chinese characters need not explain the English name. If you plan to use a new name regularly, ask a Chinese speaker to review its sound and context.
Privacy and feedback
Offline lookup does not send your name to the AI provider. An unmatched lookup or a custom name request does send the submitted details to the provider to produce a result. Recent translation history stays in your browser; custom name results do not create public pages. Our analytics events do not include names or answers. Read the privacy policy for more information.
